About us

Geodat AI is a data science consultancy specialising in geographical information systems (GIS) and geospatial data analysis support across sectors. Our name reflects the three core pillars of our work:

Geo

We solve geographical problems with computers. If data has a location, it can be mapped and analysed to reveal insight. We work with geospatial datasets to support decisions across sectors - from land cover, agriculture, and forestry to demographics, deprivation, transport, health, and the economy.

Dat

We work with data and turn it into usable insight. We're experts in cleaning, managing, analysing, and visualising geospatial data to support better decisions across research, planning, and service delivery. From spreadsheets to spatial databases, we handle data in all shapes and sizes to make complex information clear and actionable.

AI

We embed AI into our workflows to boost efficiency, automate tasks, and unlock new ways of working with data. Beyond using existing AI tools, we’re also developing our own  - including AI agents and natural language interfaces for geospatial data - to make complex systems more intuitive and accessible.

GeoDat AI is a UK-based consultancy specialising in digital cartographic map production and geospatial data processing, analysis, and visualisation. We develop solutions to help organisations solve real-world geographical problems and generate actionable insight. Working collaboratively with clients - and drawing on both open data and their own - we turn complex geospatial information into clear, practical understanding.

GeoDat AI was founded in 2025 by Dr Robert Berry, a geographer and data scientist with over 20 years' experience in research, teaching, and consultancy in GIS and geospatial data analysis. Rob has been involved in the production of over 50 academic and applied research publications in the fields of geospatial analysis and data science and has been involved in a wide range of projects - from pure academic research to contract research and consultancy - serving universities, government bodies, and businesses.

Our work is grounded in practical expertise, with a strong focus on public value, transparency, and innovation. Whether creating maps, producing clear and professional visualisations, building dashboards, or developing AI tools for geospatial data analysis, we combine deep domain knowledge with technical fluency. We work primarily with free and open-source software (FOSS) tools such as R, Python, QGIS, and PostGIS, ensuring our solutions are flexible, reproducible, and accessible. By avoiding costly proprietary systems where possible, we keep overheads low and pass those savings on to our clients.
